David R. Schroeder age 64 of Merrillville, passed away on Friday February 10, 2017. He is survived by his wife of 40  years Deborah; son Jason Schroeder;  two grandchildren; parents Russell and LoAnn Schroeder; brothers Michael (Kim) Schroeder  and Kenny (Jackie) Schroeder; sister Paula Volkmann, and by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dave was preceded in death by his sister Cathie Janeway.

Per David’s wishes, all services will be private.

Dave was retired from the Griffith Police Dept. after 24 years where he was well respected by his law enforcement officers in the Town of Griffith and throughout Lake County and the State of Indiana. He was a true leader of men and the ultimate “Big Brother” to many of them. Dave was a member of the Griffith F.O.P. and he was formerly employed by the US Marshalls Service. He was an avid fan of both the Greenbay  Packers and Wisconsin Badgers. Dave thoroughly enjoyed gunsmithing and competition shooting, and he was an animal lover, rescuing many over the years.

Memorials may be given to the Independent Cat Society of Westville or a local animal shelter of your choice.
