Thomas Joseph Sowinski
October 27, 1937 - February 28, 2025
Thomas Sowinski passed away on February 28, 2025. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Alma Sowinski.
Tom is survived by his wife of 62 years, Barbara (Babusch); children, Jolene Kratochvil, Jennifer Sowinski, Ted Sowinski, Tim Sowinski, Janet (Ron) Holsclaw, Julie (Pat) Downing, Jackie (Denis) Hamlett, Tony (Sonora) Sowinski; grandchildren, Amber Kratochvil, Brittini (Logan) Kratochvil, Natalie Sowinski, Ava O’Keefe, Chandler (Mysti) Sowinski, Blake Holsclaw, Barbara Holsclaw, Mylon Shamble, Patrick (Jordan) Downing, Sidney Hamlett, Anderson Hamlett and Carter Sowinski; great grandchildren Willa Bellinda and Miles Downing; sister, Penny Tomick (late husband, Don) and brother, John (Angie) Sowinski.
Tom graduated from Bowen High School on the Eastside of Chicago. He served in the Marine reserves from 1960 to 1965. Tom retired from Pipefitters Local 597. He was active in the Our Lady of Grace (OLG) Holy Name Society for many years and founded the OLG food pantry.
Memorial services will be held on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 at 6:00pm at White Funeral Home with Fr. Charles Niblick officiating.
Friends may meet the family on Tuesday, March 4, 2025 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm at White Funeral Home 921 W. 45th Avenue, Griffith, IN 46319.
Tom will be remembered for his backyard lamb roasts, gin and tonics, bocce ball games, and limousine rides, but most of all, for the love and laughter he shared with his friends and family. His presence and good times will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.
