Richard Stack Obituary

Richard “Rick” Allen Stack, 71, of Hammond, IN, passed away on March 18, 2025. Born on July 12, 1953 in East Chicago to Helen and Frank Stack (Stachowicz), Richard was a lifelong resident of “the region” and a dedicated ironworker with Local 395.

He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1971 and immediately began a career that would span several decades in the ironworking industry, including Braidwood Nuclear Power Plant, Bethlehem Steel, and the BP/Amoco refinery. He was a 50-year member of the Iron Workers Union Local 395. Rick was also an active member of the Whiting Robertsdale Boat Club where he served as their Vice-Commodore.

Rick was a passionate outdoorsman who loved deer hunting, fishing, and boating. Many days were spent taking his boat on Lemon and Wolf Lake and fishing in the Kankakee River. His love for good music filled his spare time and brought joy to those around him. Many times, he served as the “DJ” at the dock parties and would bring his tunes to any gathering.

Richard is survived by his children, Joshua Stack and Lindsey Martin and her husband Randy; his grandchildren, Rachel (18), Nathan (16), and Jenna (13) Stack; his brother, Paul Stack and his wife Patricia; and his sister, Linda Solberg and her husband Ron. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Helen Stack, and his brother, Mike Stack.

A ceremony to celebrate Richard's life will be held Saturday June 7th, 2025 from 11am-2pm CST at the Whiting Robertsdale Boat Club at Whihala Beach - 1561 Park Rd, Whiting, IN 46395.
