Richard A. Harbit, age 87, late of Crown Point, passed away on Saturday, March 7, 2026. He is survived by his children: Lisa (Matt) Osojnicki, Rick (Pam) Harbit, Linda (Steve) Seegers, grandchildren: Rick (Brittany) Harbit Jr., Matthew (Kyli), Danny (Katelyn) Osojnicki, Brittney (Steven) Otten, Ashlyn (Nathan) Ballas, Drew (Lauren) Wheeler, and Thomas Osojnicki, great grandchildren: Savannah, Wyatt, Mackenzie, Olivia, Briley, Matthew, Austin, Ashley, Brooklyn, and James. He is preceded in death by his parents: Carl and Wanza Harbit, wife: JoAnn, and sister: Barbara.
Friends may meet with the family on Sunday, March 15, 2026, from 1:00-4:00 PM at Geisen Funeral Home located at 606 E. 113th Ave., Crown Point, IN.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 16, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Geisen Funeral Home with Pastor Wendell Thacker officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN.
Richard was a dedicated employee at US Steel, where he served for 40 years prior to his retirement. He graduated from Merrillville High School in the class of 1957 and subsequently earned his degree from Culver Stockton College in 1961. Richard was actively involved in professional organizations such as the Lake County Saddle and Bridle Club and the Lake County Agricultural Society. Throughout his career and into retirement—including his tenure at Chrome Deposit—he maintained interests in golf, riding horses, and spending time with his family. He also spent several years wintering in Sebring, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Calumet Area.
