Petra C Berumen

Petra C. Berumen age 93 of Hammond passed away on Saturday November 7th, 2020.

She is survived by her children; Manuela Vandall, Raymond (Jennifer) Cantu, Robert (Cynthia) Briones, Consepcion Martinez, San Juanita (Daniel) Guzman, Maria Berumen, Jose Berumen Jr., Grace Arkwright, Israel (Heidie) Berumen, Silvia (Heriberto) Ramirez, 39 grandchildren, 101 great-grandchildren, and numerous great-great grandchildren.

Petra was preceded in death by her husband Jose Berumen Sr., parents Ramon and Elena Diaz, and son Joseph Berumen.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday November 12th, 2020 at 10:00 AM DIRECTLY AT Our Lady of Perpetual Help located at 7132 Arizona Ave. Hammond with Fr. Theodore Mens celebrating. Burial will follow at St. John St. Joseph cemetery in Hammond.

Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday November 11th, 2020 from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM at WHITE FUNERAL HOME located at 921 W. Glen Park Ave. (45th Ave.) Griffith.

Due to the concerns of COVID-19 all those attending the funeral service and visitation must wear facial masks and please practice safe social distancing.

Petra Casiano Berumen, affectionately known by many as Pat, was born to Ramon and Elena Casiano on March 24th, 1927 in Asherton, Texas. She has eight siblings, of which six have proceeded her in death; Consepcion Casiano, Fernando Casiano, Ramona Dominquez, Eusebuio Casiano, Atilano Casiano, and Catarina Guevara and she is survived by Margarita Avilla and Rodolfo Casiano.

Petra’s early life was spent helping her loving father on their ranch in Texas. She enjoyed listening to cumbia music and going to dances with her family and friends.

Upon marrying her beloved husband and love of her life, Jose Berumen, they moved from Texas to Indiana to set down roots and raise their ten children. They were inseparable. Whether it was dances in Ft. Wayne or a jam session on South Court, they loved to dance together, and she would sing while Jose played his guitar.

Petra was a caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She was the matriarch of five generations. Everyone she met was her “mijito” or “mijita” and she showered them with love. Family has always been the most important part to Petra.
