Patrick J. Newell

Patrick J. “Coach Pat” Newell age 77, of Surprise, Arizona, formerly of Hammond, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026. Patrick was the beloved husband of 30 years to Margaret “Peggy” Newell. He was a loving father to Tracy (Christina) Newell and Kimberly “Kim” (Perry Erwin) Newell.

He was the proud grandfather of Jennifer (fiancé Jeff Beck) Lawrence, and Jeremy Newell, and cherished great-grandfather of Amara and Joann “Jo Jo,” along with several step-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren.

Patrick is also survived by his sister, Beverly Dzurovcak; sisters-in-law, Linda Bertz and Kay Horton and family; brother-in-law, William (Gerry) Duffy and family. Nieces and nephews; Chris Guess and family, Brad Bertz and family, and Scott (Lisa) Bertz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sophia Newell; his sister, Peggy (Billy) Jones; father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Edna Duffy; Uncles Joe Duffy, Gene (Jean) Racine, Robert Duffy, and Jack Duffy; brother-in-law, Loman Horton, and by his sister-in-law Linda Humphrey.

Friends may meet with the family on Monday, May 11, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. Glen Park (45th) Ave. Griffith, IN 46319.

Patrick retired from Ford Motor Company after 31 years of dedicated service. He was a member of the Good Fellows Club in East Chicago and was an avid fisherman who loved fantasy football and baseball. Known affectionately as “Coach Pat,” he dedicated many years coaching with Longfellow Little League and softball leagues. He was the family grill master who enjoyed cooking, playing cards, gardening, and spending time with those he loved most.

Patrick will be remembered as a great and loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose kindness and humor touched many lives.
