Mary "Kathy" Kathleen (Gard) Hein

Mary Kathleen (Kathy) Hein, age 86, of Griffith, Indiana passed away on Friday, July 21, 2023.

She is survived by her daughters: Sandra (Ken) Kozol, Denise (Larry) Walsh, and Beth (Russ) Roe; grandchildren: Marie (Chris), Lawrence Jr., Ryan, Amy (Clayton), Lana and Chad; great-grandchildren: Emma, Gwen, Allison, Luci, and Corrie; sister Roberta (Gerald) Bechtold.

Kathy was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Clarence “Duke” Hein; her brothers: Frank (Helen) Gard, William (Mary Ann) Gard, and Raymond Gard; and sister-in-law Ruth (Erwin) Rick.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, July 27, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 525 N. Broad Street, Griffith with Reverend Keith Virus celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery in Schererville.

Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, July 27, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at WHITE FUNERAL HOME located at 921 W. Glen Park Ave. (45th Ave.) Griffith. Prayers at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home, family and friends will then proceed to St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

Kathy was a devoted homemaker who loved and lived for her family. She was a member of St. Mary Church and St. Mary Rosary Society. She always made time for the people she loved. She made a lot of sacrifices as a wife, mom, and grandmother but never once complained. She was faithful with sending happy mail, always had helpful advice when needed, and always put her family’s needs before her own. She was a diehard White Sox fan, but never turned her back on her Cubs loving family.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given either to the Share Foundation (sharefoundation.org) or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (stjude.org).
