Marian LeJeune Obituary

It is with great sorrow that the family of Marian B. LeJeune (nee Volk) of Griffith, announces her passing on January 20th, 2022, at the age of 94 years.

Marian will be lovingly remembered by her children: Sharon Surdy, Amy LeJeune, Patti LeJeune, Cathy (Thomas) Gora, Joseph LeJeune, grandchildren; Eric (Angela) Surdy, Bryan (Melissa) Surdy, Joseph Surdy, (Tamara Anderson), Keven (Courtney) Stonehill, Nicole Pammer, Timothy (Lauren) Rhyne, Thomas Gora, Jr., great-grandchildren; Mason, Freya, Olivia, Maddox, Bennett, Joshua, Nathan, Isla, Deacon, Kaemdon, sister Rosemary Barker, brother Charles Volk, and numerous nieces and nephews. She will also be dearly missed by her many extended family members, friends, and fellow congregation members at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Griffith.

Marian was preceded in death by her adoring husband, Edward “Joe” LeJeune, and grandsons, Taylor and Cody LeJeune.

In her youth, Marian enjoyed ice skating at Harrison Park in Hammond where she grew up. She would go on to graduate from Hammond Tech, and later, work at Indiana Bell where she met the love of her life, Joe LeJeune. Marian was a long-standing member of the Rosary Society at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Griffith; beginning at the young age of 18 she and her high school friends started their Bunco Club, she joined a women’s league and enjoyed bowling at Bowl Arena in Griffith for many years. Marian was also a poll worker in Hammond for countless elections.

Aside from raising her children whom she loved dearly, she also enjoyed water skiing and coaching volleyball at St. joseph-All Saint School. Marian was like a second “mom” to several of her children’s friends, as she was always the type of person you could turn to.

Marian was often found spending her free time doing the things she loved most – sewing, crocheting, cooking, baking, reading, working her crossword puzzles, charcoal drawing, sketching, or watching “Wheel of Fortune.” Helping to take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was one of her most cherished activities, and one that brought her so much joy. She thoroughly enjoyed time spent with family, whether for a holiday, dinner, a BBQ, or just to play cards. The simple things were treasures to Marian.

Marian also had an adventurous side and loved to travel. Annual vacations to Pennsylvania were among her most beloved activities, as well as a camping trips when her children were younger. Marian loved cruises to the Caribbean, and during one such trip, was able to walk on the bottom of the ocean! Her favorite vacation of all, though, was a family trip to Hawaii that included all her children. She simply adored sharing memories of these trips with others.

Marian was truly loved and will be thoroughly missed by all who knew her. She was a light within her family and will always be remembered for the deep and profound love that she exuded to all those around her.
