Lila M. Melcher, age 69 of Griffith, passed away peacefully Thursday, April 27, 2023. She was born August 13, 1953, to parents Ray and Elizabeth Melcher.
She is survived by her sisters Sharon (Art) Merrifield and Cindy (late Mike) Lax; nieces Cheryl Merrifield, Crystal (Jason) Poling, Carrie (Matt) Bunkowske, Nicole (Nate) Larrabee, Wiyan and Kayden Lax; Great nephews Blake, Reece, Levi, Luke, Chaucer, Zander and Alvin; Best friend Bella Cogley and by her many cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond “Ray” and Elizabeth “Betty” Melcher, nephew Mark Merrifield, brother in-law- Mike Lax; close friends Nancy Harris, Donald Harlow, Cathy Fisher, and Ann Hajduch.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday May 3, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th (Glen Park) Avenue, Griffith, with Pastor Bill Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville, IN. Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday May 2, 2023 from 3:00pm-7:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home.
Lila attended LARC in Lansing, IL, for 50 years making many lifetime friendships and enjoying life to the fullest! Her athletic abilities earned her many medals in swimming and bowling for the Special Olympics. Later in life, she attended Opportunity Enterprises in Valparaiso where Lila was recognized as the 2019 Achievement Award recipient for her willingness to learn, her drive to participate, her inspiring will to overcome, and her desire to be a friend to others. Her love for our Lord deepened through her Bible study friends. She is now in the arms of Jesus! Her greatest joy in life was her family and friends. Her loving personality and enthusiasm for life endured her to everyone. She will be greatly missed.
