Lewis O. Belcher, 74, Griffith, passed away April 11th, 2026. He was born in Kentucky to James Cecil and Nina Faye (Johns) Belcher.
Preceded in death by his parents, brother Philip Belcher, brother-in-laws Thomas Bukowski III, Jonah "Buster" Sexton, sister-in-law Judith Barenie, and father-in-law Mervyn Barenie.
Lewis is survived by his wife of 50 years Carolyn (Barenie); children Lewis (Bailee) Belcher, Brian Belcher, Amy (Steven) Vedra, and Mary (Antoine) Houston; grandchildren Dmitri, Aizen and Yelena Belcher, John-Michael Vargas, Harrison Vedra, Ashley Pierce, DeShawn and Carolyn Houston; sister, Nina Caroline Sexton, brother, James Cecil (Glenneta) Belcher Jr.; mother-in-law Rita Barenie, brothers and sisters-in-law, Mervyn J. (Linda) Barenie, John Barenie, Ellen (John) Wolters, Mary (Robert) Stratton, Mark (Angela) Barenie, Julie (Donald) Peterson, Paul (Jennifer) Barenie, and Anne Bukowski. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Lewis retired from Arcelor Mittal (Inland) Steels Plant 2 Blast Furnace in 2005. He worked with his wife at Barenie’s Lawn Decorations until they retired in 2018. Lewis was a member of St. Mary’s Church, Griffith, and the Knights of Columbus Marquette Council 3631.
Friends may meet with the family at White Funeral Home in Griffith, Indiana (921 W. Glen Park Ave. Griffith, IN, 46319) on April 16th, 2026, from 2:00–8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held the following day on April 17th, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Griffith, Indiana (525 N. Broad St. Griffith, IN 46319).
