Cremation was chosen and the family will have a celebration of Ken’s life at a later date.
Kenneth was a self-made man who believed in hard work and dedication. These values were instilled at a very young age when he would work the fields of his grandfather’s Kentucky farm. In his early twenties Kenneth began his career at Graycor in maintenance. He would tell stories of starting at the bottom sweeping floors or anything else that needed to be done. Through his efforts, job titles changed throughout the years. Some of which were laborer, General Foreman, and eventually became Superintendent of Chicago Blasting. It was while in this position that Kenneth would earn the nickname “Master Blaster.”
Kenneth took pride in the fact that he would never ask any of his men to do a job that he wasn’t ready or able to do himself. He always worked alongside the men he oversaw. After 40 years of service, Kenneth retired from Graycor in 2001. He was a proud member of the Laborers Union, Local 269. Hobbies that Kenneth enjoyed were showing and raising horses for many years, gardening, working in his outdoor water and flower gardens, woodworking, and spending time with dogs Tink and Belle, and his horse JoJo.
Kenneth will be missed by all those who knew and loved him.
