Julius Tzitz, age 93, of Griffith, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2024.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Margaret, children: Carolyn (Steve) Shimek, Bob Tzitz, grandchildren: Chris (Angela Van Hover) Michaels, Meghan Carpenter, Samantha (Kyle) St. John, Andrea O’Donnell, great-grandchildren: Eli Carpenter, Jenson and Emily Van Hover, Charlotte St. John, and sister, Elizabeth “Elaine” Sherman.
Julius was preceded in death by his parents, John and Elizabeth Tzitz.
Cremation was chosen and there are no services scheduled at this time.
Julius retired from Youngstown Sheet and Tube/LTV Steel after more than 40 years. Julius was a Committee Member for the Griffith Park Full of Art, a Police Commissioner for the Town of Griffith, and a member of the Griffith Jaycees. Julius was a leader of both Cub Scout and Boys Scout troops, and led two backpacking trips to the Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Julius enjoyed a very active life: he was an avid bowler, fisherman, tennis player, swimmer, and bicycle rider. He also built and sailed his own sailboat and ice boat. Julius had a passion for travel, enjoying travel throughout North America and Europe.
