Joy Ann Govert-Dembowski age 76 of Michigan City formerly of Griffith, IN.

Joy A Govert, passed away at 4:39 a.m., Tuesday, May 25, 2021, in her home with her beloved husband at her side. Joy was born on December 2, 1944, in Griffith, to Maurice J and Anna (nee Elman) Govert and she was the ‘JOY’ of their lives. Joy was a retired ‘Trendsetter’ District Sales Manager for Avon Products, Inc. She was a 1962 graduate of Griffith High School. Joy’s life was dedicated to her family, hard work, not giving up, and giving back to others.  While attending Griffith’s Catholic Private and Public Schools, she worked as Griffith’s first Papergirl (Hammond Times), and as a teenager, Joy cleaned St Mary School.  

Joy is survived by her husband of 22 years, Raymond S.; daughter Jill Marie (Ted) Nekvasil; grandson Bradley; stepsons John (Sandra) Dembowski, Christopher (Kate) Dembowski; step grandchildren McKayla, Leah Rose, Luis, Isabella, Jacob, Michael, Gabriel, Andrew, and Faith; siblings Jay (Kathy) Govert, Maurice (Sue) Govert, Linda (Ken) Fijut, Mary (Al) Benavides, Russ (Paula) Govert, Patrick (Carey) Govert, Kristie (John) Hunt, and Tammy (late Tom) Taylor; sister-in-law Kathy Govert and brothers-in-law William, Ronald (Barb), Terrence and Phillip Dembowski. She is also survived by her numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Joy was preceded in death by her loving parents Maurice and Anna (nee Elman) Govert, her brother Tom and stepson Matthew.

Friends may meet with the family on Friday June 11th, 2021, from 3:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home. The Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. on Friday evening. Memorial services will be held on Saturday June 12th, 2021, at 10:30 a.m. at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. Glen Park (45th) Avenue Griffith with Fr. Theodore Mens officiating.  

She was a former Precinct Committeewoman in Griffith, Co-Founder and Past President of Griffith Crime Watch, former Realtor with Price Realty, and retired Avon ‘Trendsetter’ District Sales Manager where she won many awards in Illinois, Virginia, and Maryland. Joy was active in supporting ONI (Office of Naval Intelligence) in Washington DC. She was an avid reader and enjoyed knitting and crocheting, making all of her family baby sweater and blanket sets. Joy was a strong and independent woman who loved her Family, Country, and Flag.
