John P James

John P. James, of Griffith, passed away on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Phyllis (nee Raczkowski), children, Rob (Laurie) James, Alison (Fiancé, Jason Alexander) Bond, grandchildren, Alex, Hannah, Noelle, Bobby, and Sofie, sister-in-law Camille (Michael) Liscinsky, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, August 20, 2023, beginning at 5:00 p.m. at WHITE FUNERAL HOME located at 921 W. Glen Park Ave. (45th Ave.) Griffith. Inurnment will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elmwood, Illinois. 

Friends are invited to meet with the family on Sunday, August 20, 2023, from 1;00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home. 

John graduated from T.H. Gertsmyer High School and Indiana State University. John majored in Math and Science. He taught Math and Science at Plainfield Jr. High School and taught Math at Calumet High School.

John retired as a Telecommunication Specialist from Inland Steel after 24 years. John was an Army Veteran and was a member of the American Legion, Post 66, as well as the Griffith VFW #9982. John was also a former member of the White Eagle Club of Indiana Harbor. John enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, making jokes, having a beer at the local watering hole, and pouring drinks at the Squirrel Tooth Saloon, which he had done for over 40 years.
