Johanna, 93 of Crown Point, Indiana Went to her eternal home to meet her Lord and Savior on Friday January 15, 2021
She was born on March 16, 1927 in Wyoming, Michigan to Martin & Anna (Prins) Toonstra.
On November 7, 1952, she married Robert Allen (Oatmeal) Turner who preceded her in death in 2010.
They raised seven children, which resulted in 18 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren
and 7 great great grandchildren.
She was immensely proud of her family and loved to spend time with them all.
She was famous for her award-winning home baked goods & Was nicknamed the “Pie Lady” of their retirement community in Palmetto, Florida where the wintered for 17 years. She also crocheted numerous afghans that have become family heirlooms.
She will be lovingly remembered by her 7 children: Mary Jo White from Buffalo, MO, Patricia (Evart) Empie from Grand Rapids, MI, Mark (Paula) Turner from Rock Hill, SC, Anna Mae Turner from Cedar Lake, IN, Timmothy (Tammy) Turner from Tampa, FL, Barbara (Kenneth Scott) Vickery from Crown Point, IN and Dave Turner from Crown Point, IN.
She is also survived by 3 of her brothers, Henry, Edward & Arnold Toonstra. She was preceded in death by her parents, her infant sister Anna Mae, her sister Sylvia Westra, her twin sister Jeanette Barber & 2 of her brothers Elmer & Martin Toonstra and several inlaws.
Her faith remained with her till the end, She and her late husband Robert touched many lives with their faith, love and generosity to others.
A faithful child of God, she devoted her life to sharing love she received from Christ with all whose lives she touched, family, friends and even strangers.
Johanna’s family would also like to give thanks to the staff at Wittenberg Village in Crown Point, IN for all the love and care our mother received while she resided there.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday January 19, 2021 at 12:30 p.m. at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Ave. (Glen Park Ave.) Griffith, with Pastor Gary Butler officiating. Burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Schererville.
Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday January 19, 2021 from 10:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at White Funeral Home. Due to Covid-19 concerns, all those attending the services at the funeral home, facial mask will be required. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to HBC Church Planting Initiatives, P.O.
