Gregory Coddington Obituary

Gregory J. Coddington, 67, of Griffith, Indiana, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 49 years, Jody.

 He was a proud father to Michael (Holly) Coddington, Emily (Kevin) Wlazlo, and Matthew (Jissela) Coddington, and an even prouder Papa to Brady, Emersyn, Angel, Benjamin, Anna, and Noah. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and he cherished every moment spent with them. Gregory is also survived by his mother, Elaine Kearney (late Phil); his siblings, Kevin Coddington, Terry Coddington (Bryan), Chuck Coddington, Dawn Hilbrich, Jeff Coddington; his in-laws: Tim (Pam) Jeremiah, Susan Colby (late Jeff), Tracy (Kelly) Jeremiah, Mary Jeremiah (Rocky Huber), Jannie (Ron) Urevig, Tricia (Jeff) Kistler, and numerous nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles (Irma) Coddington.

 Also preceded in death by his in-laws, Roy and Clara Jeremiah.

 Gregory attended St. Mary Catholic School and then Griffith High School where he graduated in 1977.Gregory retired from UPS (T-Force) in South Holland, Illinois, after 21 years of dedicated service. He was also a former employee of CF (Consolidated Freightways). Known as an exceptional dockman, he took great pride in his work—his trailers were always “high and tight.” Gregory was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Griffith. He found great joy in golfing with his sons and lifelong friends. He was an avid Notre Dame football fan and Chicago Cubs baseball fan. He never missed watching a Notre Dame game with his family and it was his favorite tradition. Gregory also served as a former basketball coach at St. Mary Catholic School. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. Greg will be remembered for his warmth, his sense of humor, and the love he had for his family and friends. His legacy lives on in the family he built and the many lives he touched. He will forever be missed.

Friends may meet with the family at White Funeral Home in Griffith, Indiana (921 W. Glen Park Ave. Griffith, IN, 46319) on March 25th from 4:00–8:00 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held the

following day on March 26th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Griffith, Indiana (525 N. Broad St. Griffith, IN 46319). Cremation will follow the services.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to their family and friends for the love, support, prayers and kindness shown during this difficult time. Your presence and compassion have meant more than words can express. They would also like to offer a sincere thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Franciscan Health for their care, dedication, and compassion.
