Gary Lester “the Colonel” DeYoung age 64 of Munster, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Monday June 28, 2021. He is survived by his wife of 38 1/2 years Teresa; son Andrew DeYoung; Mother Carolyn DeYoung; sister Laurie (Joe) Yothment; brothers Gerald (Caroline) DeYoung and George (Joanne) DeYoung; and by his nieces, nephews, cousins and multiple god children. Gary was preceded in death by his father Lester DeYoung, and by his brother Glenny DeYoung in 1985. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday July 7, 2021, at 10:00am at St. Paul Lutheran Church located at 8601 Harrison Ave. in Munster, Indiana with Pastor Donald Stock officiating. Burial will follow at Oakridge Cemetery in Lansing, Illinois.
Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday July 6, 2021, from 3-8:00pm at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Munster, Indiana. Gary was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church and he retired from Community Hospital where he worked as an X-ray technician for 30 years. He loved woodworking, gardening, and, rowing world champion for multiple years, bread making (even winning the blue ribbon at the Lake Co. Fair).
