Carole Lahey Obituary

Carole J. Lahey, age 80, of Schererville, IN, passed away on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

She is survived by her children, Michael John Lahey, Susan Marie Lahey, and Brian Patrick Lahey, grandchildren, Dre Lahey, Renée (Mitchell) Lahey-Jacobs, and Natalie Lahey, sisters, Cathy (Tom) Haupt and Janie Berland, and nieces, nephews, sister’s-in-law, cousins, and extended family.  Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Orvin R. and Mary (Janek) H. Berland, and husband John C. Lahey.

Carole was often described as kind, full of life, always smiling, and extremely generous.  She loved people and would start conversations freely. She has worked mainly as an executive assistant from her first position at Standard Oil to St. Margaret’s Hospital, various physicians, and a church.  She also endeavored in multiple business opportunities from Lahey Pipe and Supply to small business pursuits.  Her last job was teaching dance at her sister’s dance studio, Jane Berland School of Dance.  She was loved by the children there, and loved to perform her favorite style of dance, tap.  She also volunteered throughout her life with the Boy Scouts of America (den leader), taught CCD for the Catholic Church, multiple efforts with her sorority, Beta Gamma Upsilon, sang in her church choir, and many more.

To her family and friends, her warmth and unconditional love was felt continually.  She would give up her last dollar or the clothes on her back to be with those she loved.   Carole would often convey emotion when speaking of Jesus, salvation, her testimony, family, and friends.  She was also known to express emotion over golf, politics, fireworks, and all things Disney!  She was a grateful woman who enjoyed the simple pleasures of life.

Carole had an innate ability to hope, a positive attitude, and gratitude.  She lived by Hebrews 11:1 (NIV) “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” and Romans 12:12 (NIV) “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer”.  She never stopped hoping and believing.  She is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, who “will wipe every tear from their/her eyes.  There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain… “(Revelation 21:4; NIV).  Her final hope was that all find this same comfort in Him.
