Waldo L. Foster, 82 of Merrillville formerly of Griffith, Indiana passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 62 years, Sandra Foster

Son: Terry (Sherry Casinger), daughters: Traci (Dirk) Voges and Toni (John) Loomis all of Griffith

Brother: Bill (Eva) Foster of Peytona, West Virginia, sister: Joann Bradley of Bloomingrose, West Virginia

He has 6 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents: John and Evelyn Foster and his special Aunt and Uncle, Willie and Leonard who raised him after the death of his mother when he was two years old.

He was born in Bloomingrose, West Virginia and entered the Air Force in December 1950. He proudly served his country for 20 years, and retired as Master Sergeant in December 1970.  He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.  After his service in the Air Force, he was employed at Republic Steel, LTV Steel and Union Tank Car.  During his "retirement", he worked as the Griffith American Legion Post 66 bartender.  Waldo was in several organizations including the Masons and the Shriners.  In addition, he served many years at the Griffith American Legion Post 66, holding several offices, including Post Commander.  He loved serving the American Legion and was a regular at spaghetti dinners and Thursday night bingo.  Even though he traveled all over during his military career, he always loved going home to West Virginia.

Per his wishes, the family will hold a memorial gathering for friends and family at the Griffith American Legion at 132 N. Wiggs Street in Griffith, on Saturday, January 17 ^th , 2015 from 2-6:00 pm.

He was a great husband, father, brother, and friend to all who knew him and will be sadly missed.
