Sandra L. Foster (Cowley) of Merrillville, formerly of Griffith, IN, passed away Sunday, August 30, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband and high school sweetheart, Waldo, and leaves behind her children, Terry (Sherry Casinger), Traci (Dirk) Voges, and Toni (John) Loomis, all of Griffith; two brothers, Vernon (Sue) Cowley of Merrillville and Gary (Pat) Cowley of Abingdon, VA, and sister in law, Kay Cowley of Abingdon, VA. She has six grandchildren, four great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents Hugh and Grace Cowley, and brother Jack Cowley.

Sandra was born in Garrison, West Virginia, and graduated from Sherman High School in Seth, West Virginia. In December, 1952 she and Waldo were married in College Station, Texas.  As part of Waldo's military career in the USAF, they traveled across the United States, and also Japan.  She was a proud military wife.  Sandra was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the American Legion, Post 66.  Oftentimes, she greeted others at the Legion door while working the spaghetti and pork chop dinners.  She was a wonderful and amazing mom, sister, grandmother, and friend to all who knew her and will be sadly missed. Per her wishes, the family will hold a memorial gathering for family and friends at the Griffith American Legion, 132 N. Wiggs St. on Saturday September 5, 2015 from 2 pm to 6 pm.
