Ronald James Glover age 83 of Griffith, passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at the Indiana Veterans Home in West Lafayette, IN. Born in Hammond on December 19, 1930 to the late Percy and Viola (Beiriger) Glover of Griffith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years Dolores (Mysliwy) Glover of Griffith, IN. Loving father of Sheila (Fred) Evans of Lexington, NE, Melissa of Swanton, OH, Jim (Gina) of Crown Point, IN, Tom of Griffith, IN, Matthew of Fairview, IL. Cherished grandfather of 4 grandchildren: Brittany (Doug) Vaughan of Midland, GA, Alyssa Glover of Hobart, IN, Sean and Coleman Evans of Boise, ID; 2 great grandchildren; Carter and Chase Vaughan.
Preceded in death by his parents; Percy and Viola (Beiriger) Glover of Griffith and sister Kathleen (Anthony) Locascio of Antioch, IL.
Ron graduated from Griffith High School class of 1948. He was a resident of Griffith for over 80 years, Korean Veteran stationed at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, NV as a band musician playing clarinet and saxophone. Later in life was his love of playing the upright string bass.
Employed by Calumet Breweries and Sales of Corporate Gifts in 12 states.
Love of God, family and friends were number one in his life, second being music. He played with numerous bands throughout the area and possessed an extreme knowledge of music on every level.
He enjoyed traveling, photography, BBQ's on his smoker and the N.Y. Times crossword puzzles.
A member of the Knights of Columbus, Marquette Council #3631, Musician Union Local #203, American Legion Post #66 for 60 years, Jaycees of Griffith, CCD teacher, choir member and the Holy Name Society at St. Mary's in Griffith, musician in the Rusty Pipes of Hobart, Griffith Historical Society and Boy Scout Troop #518.
Visitation at White Funeral Home , 921 W. 45 th Street, Griffith, IN on Friday, August 22 nd from 2:00-8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, August 23 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Church in Griffith, IN with Rev. Theodore J. Mens officiating. Cremation to follow.
Memorial contributions may be given to St. Mary's School in Griffith.
