Richard Davids July 7, 1930 – October 16, 2026 Richard Davids, 96, passed away on Friday, October 16, 2026, in Griffith, Indiana. Born on July 7, 1930, in Youngstown, Ohio, and raised in Marktown, Indiana, Richard lived a long life that carried him across the world and connected five generations of family.
Richard served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War. While stationed in Japan, he met and married Miyako, with whom he shared 63 years of marriage.
After retiring from Youngstown Sheet and Tube, Richard and Miyako traveled throughout the United States in their RV, sharing the adventure of the open road before settling in Panama City Beach, Florida, where they lived for approximately 20 years.
Richard spent his final years in Griffith, sharing a home with his daughter, Jeanette, his granddaughter, and two of his great-grandchildren—four generations together under one roof. Jeanette served as his primary caregiver for the last several years of his life, providing dedicated daily care and support with assistance from his granddaughter.
His two seven-year-old great-grandchildren also helped in the small ways they could. His greatgranddaughter showed special care and consideration, sitting beside him while she colored and staying close to keep him company as he moved about.
Among the memories his grandchildren and great-grandchildren will carry is the familiar sound of him moving and shuffling about his room at night. They would affectionately joke, “Grandpa is having a dance party in his room again.” Those little nighttime “dance parties” will remain a fond family memory, a reminder of his presence in the everyday life of their home.
Richard is survived by his three daughters, Jeanette of Griffith, Cheryl (Ed) Kline of Hebron, and Elizabeth of Texas; his brother, Harry Davids; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-greatgrandchild. He was preceded in death by his wife, Miyako, and his son, William “Billy” Davids.
His 96 years held many journeys, from his childhood in Indiana to his service overseas and the miles he traveled alongside Miyako. His life remains part of the family’s history, remembered through the stories and moments shared across generations. Memorial services will be held at a later date. May he rest in peace.
