Obituary

Randy K. Pete Sr., 55 of Highland, passed away at his home on Wednesday, January 25 th , 2012, with family members by his side. Known for his charisma, humor and generosity, Randy was a great man who never met a stranger. He was born in Hammond on December 29, 1956 to the late Dan and Sophia Pete. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2010, Randy retired from Inland Steel where he worked for 36 years. Outside the mill, he was a skilled mechanic and craftsman who often used his talents to benefit family and friends, which included helping his family work on their cars and assisting his children in rehabbing their first homes. Randy enjoyed cool cars, action movies, classic rock and food (he never passed up a sweet treat), but it was spending time with his family, especially his young grandchildren, that he was fond of the most. Randy was the cornerstone of his family and did everything he could to do right by them. He was their hero and will always be remembered for his strength, courage, wit and kind heart.

Loved by everyone who knew him, Randy is survived by his wife, Kathy Pete, of 37 years; three children, Randy Pete (Sarah), Jody Kennedy (Scott), and Amy Pete, all of Indianapolis; two grandchildren, Jack and Isabella Kennedy; several sisters and brothers, John "Butch" Pete (Charlene) of South Haven and Bryan Pete (Michel) of Hammond; and dear friend, Dave Mendoza of Hammond.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charlie and Dennis.
