Peggy J. Thiel age 85, of Griffith, passed away on Thursday December 21, 2017. She is survived by her husband of 66 years George; Children: Michael Thiel, Larry (Robin) Thiel, Sandra (Sam) Chen; grandchildren Joshua (Elizabeth), Matthew, Tommy, Danny, Candice, and Carson; great grandchildren   Andrew, Kate, George, and Betty. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friend Debbie Meadows. Peggy was preceded in death by her parents Charles and Gertrude Vestal, sisters Betty (Larry) Govert, Alma Kuhn, Sue (Mike) Mihalsic, Zoeann (Baird) Hutchins ; by brothers Charles, John, Jimmy and Jerry (Myrna) Vestal;  brother and sister-in-laws  Bill, Clarence, Francis, and Elizabeth.

Funeral services will be held Thursday December 28, 2017 at 10:00 am DIRECTLY at St. Mary Catholic Church with Theodore Mens Celebrating.  Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville. Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday December 27, 2017 from 3-8:00pm at White Funeral Home Located at 921 W. 45th Avenue in Griffith. There will be an afternoon Prayer Service at 4:00pm on Wednesday.

Peggy was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and their Altar and Rosary Society. She was an avid bowler on the Thursday Night League; she was a member of the Catholic Order of Forrester's and a member of the Griffith Senior Center where she loved playing pinochle. Peggy could be found in the stands at most of the Griffith High School athletic home games. She was a former Griffith Girls Softball coach and she was an avid Purdue Fan.  Memorials may be given to the Hospice of Calumet Area and St. Mary Catholic Church of Griffith.
