Norma Jean (Watson) Sims-Horton

Norma Jean Horton, age 82, born and raised in Villa Grove, IL passed away July 21, 2014 in Highland, IN with her son, Paul at her side. Norma was born November 8, 1931 to Harry Wallace and Jessie (Peecher) Watson. She is survived by her son Paul David Sims, two step children, Brenda (Gary) Whiteside and Bill (Christina) Horton, and several nieces and nephews.

Norma was preceded in death by Husbands Roy H. Sims and William H. Horton, two brothers Harry (Bud) and Roy (Dean), and five sisters Virginia, Helen, Fern, Ethel and Alice.

Norma was a proud Army veteran that served during the Korean War. She was assigned to Headquarters Area Command in Heidelberg Germany where she performed many varied and complex administrative duties.

Norma was a life member of the VFW (Post Commander), a life member of the American Legion (Post Adjutant and Finance Officer), a life member of the DAV Auxiliary, and member of the Women of the Moose Fraternity.

Norma worked in various occupations including bookkeeper at a law office and numerous other organizations, a Realtor, a hair stylist that owned and operated her own salon, and assistant in a radiology department. The most important and successful was as a mother.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 24, 2014 at 11:30 AM at Gloria Dei (Glory to God) Lutheran Church located at 3711 Ridge Road, Highland, IN with The Rev. James T. Swanson officiating. Burial services will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville, IN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the services at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to charity of choice.
