Meliton Rangel born April 1, 1931 in Wharton, Texas died on February 18, 2016 in San Antonio, Texas at age 84.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Ana Maria Ortegon, his four children: Gloria (Daniel) Young, David (Mary), Daniel (Linda), and Sonia Smith, 10 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.

Brothers: Jesus of Laredo, Texas, Higinio (Lucinda) of Michigan, sisters: Micaela (Robert) Cazares of N. Carolina and Maria Elena Trevino of Texas and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Eleuterio and Tomasa, brothers, Manuel and Lupe.

Friends may meet with the family on Friday, February 26, 2016 from 2-8:00 pm at White Funeral Home, located at 921 W. 45 ^th Avenue, Griffith.

Meliton retired from Inland Steel after 36 years, # 2 O.H. and 2 #3 O.H. and was a member of Local 1010 Retirees Club.

He served in the Korean War and earned several medals and citations including, 2 Bronze stars, and the Sinc Ma Ree citation.

Meliton was a member of Korean Vets Chapter #3, the Elks # 485, American Legion Post # 508, Hammond Mohawks, Hammond Moose, Soar Retiree Club, Gophers Golf League, Past President of the Tequileros Fast Pitch Softball League, Past President of the Woodmen of the World of E.C. IN. and a member of the United Hispanics of N.W.I.

He lived his life to the fullest, loved fishing in Canada, Minnesota and on the Kankakee River. Meliton was an avid White Sox and Dallas Cowboys fan. He loved music and was a helluva good dancer.  Meliton will be truly missed by all the lives he touched.
