MARY JANE DOWNING MUNSTER,IN Mary Jane "MJ" Downing, age 86 of Munster, passed away on Tuesday, November 27, 2012. She is survived by her nieces: Pam (Bob) King, Bonnie Royster, and Pat Bagg; nephews: Anthony Ares and Donald Krause; great nieces; great nephews; and also caring friends: Marianne Grimmer and Dominic and Jo Ann Noce. MJ was preceded in death by her parents: John and Bonnie Krause; husband, Dr. Dick Downing; brothers: Jack and Donald Krause; sisters: Dorothy Ares and Beverly Krause. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Ave., Griffith IN with Rev. James Williams officiating. As per MJ's wishes, her body was donated to the IU Medical School in Indianapolis. MJ graduated from Manchester College. She retired from Hammond Public Schools after 46 years. MJ taught physical education at Maywood, Riley, Orchard Drive, Jefferson, Franklin, and Edison Elementary Schools, and Clark High School. She also loved working with Hammond's Summer Day Camp for children with disabilities. MJ was a member of Unity Church of Munster Church Guild, Hammond Teachers Assoc., Munster Democratic Club, and loved her Bunco Club.
