HENRIE
LaVerne Louise Muir, 92, of Merrilville passed away peacefully after a brief illness on June 15, 2013. She was the widow of the late Clemuel P. Henrie who proceeded her in death. She is survived by her son Marc M. Henrie (Patricia) of Jupiter, FL, Georgia Henrie of Crown Point, IN and Sue Henrie Strup (Dr. Stephen Strup) of Lexington, KY and three wonderful grandchildren whom she dearly loved Matt Henrie of Wilmington, NC, Spencer Henrie Strup and Sydney E. Strup, Lexington, KY.
Lanie as she was known by friends and family was born on April 11, 1921 in Riverside, IL. She attended Purdue University where she was a Kappa Kappa Gamma. Lanie followed her older brother Marvin Muir, and joined the Navy and was a WAVE. While she was serving in the navy, she met the love of her life Clem. Both were in the navy and married in Evanston, IL where they were married for 63 years. Lanie and Clem moved to Elkhart, IN where they lived and raised their family. Lanie was President of the Elkhart Humane Society, and was an active member of Elcona Country Club where she won numerous golf Club Championships. She also was active in the Elkhart General Hospital Auxiliary and Cherry Corner. Lanie was an excellent bridge and gin rummy player.
After Clem retired and sold Henrie's Carpets, they moved to Pinehurst, NC in 1983. They lived in Pinehurst for more than 18 years where they both played golf, tennis and bridge. They became very active in the community including the Pinehurst Silver Foils Women's Golf Association and served as Animal Cruelty Officers for Moore County. Wanting to be closer to their daughter Sue and her family, they moved to Jenner's Pond Retirement Community in West Grove, PA. After living there for a couple of years, they followed Sue and her family to Lexington, KY and lived at Richmond Place. Most recently she lived by her daughter Georgia in Merrillville, IN.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the staff, nurses and wonderful, caring caregivers at Spring Mill – the Legacy and Harbor Light Hospice of Indiana. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made honoring her life to the Humane Society or Hospice of your choice. White Funeral Home, of Griffith, IN. in charge of arrangements.
