Joseph "Joe" Tschida, age 76 of Griffith, passed away on Friday, January 2, 2015
He is survived by his wife of 52 years: Venus;
Children: Denise Tschida of California, Dan Tschida of Griffith and Marc Tschida of Bloomington, IN.;
Grandchildren: Jason Lucas and Kristina (Brad) Smith both of California;
Sisters: Sandy Gilson of Arvada, CO. and Susan (Richard) Holzemer of MN.;
Brothers-in-law: Bob, Vaughn, Frank Jr, and Russ all of LaCrosse, WI. And by numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents: Henry and Louise Tschida.
Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 7 , 2014 at 10:00 am directly at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 525 N. Broad St. Griffith, IN. with Father Theodore Mens celebrating.
Burial will follow at St. John-St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Hammond, IN.
Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday, January 6th, from 3-8:00pm at White Funeral Home, located at 921 W. 45 th Avenue, Griffith.
Joe was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He was the property Manager of St. Mary and St. Ann Parishes 24/7, Rental Manager for St. Mary-Hildebrandt Hall, Eucharistic Minister, Eucharistic Minister to the sick and homebound, a cantor at the 7:30 Sunday Mass, lector, usher, R.C.I.A. instructor, started the "Prayers for Peach" every Sunday 14 years ago, St. Mary Religious Education Teacher, St. Mary Garden Club member, member of the St. Mary Men's Club. He was a graduate of the diocesan 4 year Lay Leadership Program, volunteer with St. Mary Family Services, involved in the men's "Christ Renews His Parish" spiritual retreat and bible study program, Joe ran the kitchen during "Tuesday Night Bingo", he was involved in every detail of St. Mary Western Days, the St. Mary Boy Scouts, and active member of the Office of Pro-Life Activities for the Diocese of Gary, active in the St. Mary "Gabriel Project", Hospice volunteer at Dyer Nursing Home and the Griffith Knights of Columbus.
