John C. "Jack" Vanek, age 62 of Griffith passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2014.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years Kathleen Vanek

Children: Jennifer (Michael Baker) Vanek, Amanda (John Walsh) Vanek, John ( Jennifer) Vanek, Katie (Bill Nelson) Vanek, Matthew (Lindsay) Vanek,Daniel Vanek.

Grandchildren: Tyler, Breeana, Ava, Blake, Hunter, Max, Olivia

Brother: Jim (Virginia) Vanek, sister: Margaret (David) Harangody, sister in law: Nancy Winkley, brothers in law: John (Sheree) Kayden, Jim (Debbie) Kayden, numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: James and Margaret Vanek, and by his grandchildren: Savannah and John Vanek.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 15 ^th , 2014 at 10:00 AM directly at St. Mary Catholic Church, located at 525 N. Broad St. Griffith, IN with Father Theodore Mens officiating.

Burial will follow at St. John- St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Hammond, IN.

Friends may meet with the family on Friday November 14 ^th from 2-8:00PM at White Funeral Home, located at 921 W. 45 ^th Avenue in Griffith, Indiana.

Jack was a member of the Griffith Fraternal Order of Police #161. He was retired from the Griffith Police Department after 25 years of service. Jack was a member of Rockville American Legion Post #48 and he was an Eagle Scout. He was an avid outdoorsman, Chicago Bears fan and a mentor to many.

Memorials may be given to St. Mary Catholic Church.
