James Carl Stokes Sr. age 84 of Gary, passed away on Sunday October 19, 2014.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years Mary Elsie; children James Carl (Lori) Stokes Jr., Carcilla (Charles) Sweeney, and Ryan (Ashley) Stokes; grandchildren Charles Sweeney Jr. and Michael James Stokes; brother Billy Arlie (Kay) Stokes and by his sister Nellie (Ricky)McIlroy. James was preceded in death by his parents William and Frankie Stokes, brothers Louis, George, Melvin, and Paul. Funeral services will be held on Friday October 24, 2014 at 10:00am at White Funeral Home with Pastor Sam Abbott and Pastor Stephen Sluder officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Friends may meet with the family on Thursday October 23 ^rd from 4-8:00pm at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45 ^th Ave. in Griffith.

James was a member of the Church of God in Griffith and he was retired from Ford Motor Co. Stamping Plant.
