JACKIE JEAN "SMITTY" SMITH HIGHLAND, IN
Jackie Jean "Smitty" Smith age 84 of Highland, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 28, 2011 with his wife of 61 years, Agnes and son, Randy (Lauren) by his side, after a long battle with Alzheimer's and renal complications. He is also survived by his daughter, Jackie (Dwight) Merdock; three grandchildren: Corey, Shannon, and Mike; one step grandchild, Nick; and also by numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents: Herman and Ruby; sisters: Wilma (Joe) Komorowski, Carol (Norm) Short, and Janet (Bob) Titus. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday August 31, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at the

with Rev. James Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville. Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday August 30th from 4:00-8:00 p.m. at the

WWII
, and was an Iron Worker with local #395 for 44 years before retiring in 1990. Jack was an avid Outdoorsman, Scouter, and Master Mason. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and fishing. He was awarded the Scouter's Key and Governors Award after spending more than 30 years of his life dedicated to the Boy Scouts of America. He was a member of the McKinley Masonic Lodge # 712 F & A.M.
