Jack L. Smith age 80 of Griffith passed away on Saturday February 1, 2014

He is survived by his wife of 57 years Serena

Children: Diane (Greg) Gordon of Schererville

Kirk "Minnow" Smith of Griffith

Granddaughter: Shannon (Josh) Teague of Highland

Great grandson: Logan Teague

Brother: Patrick (Mary) Smith of Brooksville, Florida

Preceded in death by his parents Everett and Thelma and by his stepmother Susie Smith.

An American Legion memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2014  at 6:00 pm.

Friends may meet with the family on Wednesday, Feb. 5 from 4:00 pm until time of service at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Ave. in Griffith.

Jack was retired from the Griffith Post Office after 43 years and the IHB Railroad. He was a member of the Griffith American Legion Post 66, a past Post Commander, past District Commander, and he chaired many other committees at the Legion Post. He was also a member of the Legion Honor Guard. Jack volunteered at Hines Hospital and he was also a member of both the VFW Post 9982 and the 40 & 8 club. He was a bartender at Scherwood Club for many years. Jack coached the Twins Little League team in Griffith and refereed at many high school football games. He loved to play pinochle and was an avid golfer.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Legion Rehab of Indiana.
