Hildegard F. Hochstetler

Hildegard F Hochstetler ‘Hilde’ (9/18/1937-10/27/2026) was a wonderful, caring, and generous soul. She will be greatly missed by her family: husband Eugene; children: Carl (Karen) Hochstetler, Eric Hochstetler, Eileen (Jim) Stocking, Christine (Andy) Wroblewski; grandchildren Abby, Lily and Clayton Wroblewski. She is also survived by her brother Harry (Lois) Chaveriat and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Hildegard Chaveriat, and beloved sister Helene Nickles. Hildegard was born in Chicago to a very large and extended Germanic family. She had fond and lasting memories of growing up and attending St James Lutheran grade school and Luther North High School. The commute from her house to school by way of Chicago public transit was quite the ordeal. She attended Valparaiso University before going to Augustana Hospital School of Nursing where she trained and briefly worked as a nurse before starting a family with her husband Eugene. They were married 61 years. Hildegard was a world traveler from an early age taking more than one tour of Europe, cruising Mexico, the United States, and the Caribbean and also a life changing visit to the Holy Land. Hildegard had a close relationship with God and was a devoted Lutheran. She was an active member at Griffith Lutheran Church and the Griffith Lutheran Church women. Hildegard amazed us all with her uncanny ability to never forget anyone’s birthday or anniversary and would faithfully send out greeting cards to family with an abundance of stickers. Her hand sewn ornaments and deviled eggs will be missed this holiday season. All Glory to Jesus and happy reunion with your dear little sister Helene!
