Helen Kolisz (nee Strezo) age 88 formerly of Hammond went home to God on Friday December 9, 2016 at Porter Memorial Hospital in Valparaiso.

Helen was the loving mother of David (Sherry) Kolisz, Michael ( Barbara)Kolisz, Karen (Mark) Owens, Donna Kolisz (Tom Byrd) and Edward (Olimpia) Kolisz Jr.

Proud grandmother of David Kolisz Jr., Christine Kolisz, Stephanie  Kolisz, Patrick Kolisz, Sydney Owens, Megan Krakowiak,  Anya Kolisz and great grandchildren David and Aubrey Rodriguez.

Helen also leaves behind her loving brother Frank (Mary Ellen) Strezo Jr., sister-in-law Virginia (late Chuck) Smith, brothers-in-law's Ron (late Eileen) Kolisz, John (late Eleanor) Hora, and Louis (late Emily) Kolbus, many nieces, nephews and great nieces, and great nephews.

Helen is reunited with her loving family, her husband Edward (July 10, 2012), sisters, Eleanor Hora, Irene Dubec, Theresa Strezo  ,parents Frank and Frances Strezo, mother and father -in-law, sisters and brother-in laws and a nephew.

Mom was retired from Carson Pirie Scott Co. located in Woodmar Mall working (and giving advice) in the Housewares Department for many years.  Mom always put her family first , making time to take care of family or friends who needed her.  She was a devoted grandmother to her loving grandchildren spending quality time walking or rocking babies to sleep, sitting on the floor playing games or reading a story.  Mom had a special devotion to the Blessed Mother and Saint Francis and loved her church Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Hammond.

After  surviving a auto accident which caused a traumatic brain injury in 2009 in which part of her memory was affected, what Mom never lost was her beautiful  (and sometimes mischievous) smile and her sense of humor. We thank the nurses and aides of Life Care Center of Valparaiso for taking such good care of mom for the past 7 years. She made many friends there and enjoyed sitting near the front desk to greet all who came through the door.

Funeral services will be held on Friday December 16, 2016 at 10:00am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help located at 7132 Arizona Avenue Hammond, IN with Fr. Charles Mosley celebrating. Burial will follow at St. John/St. Joe Catholic Cemetery in Hammond.

Friends may meet with the family on Thursday, December 15th from 2:00pm-7:00pm at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Avenue in Griffith. There will be a Wake service at 6:30pm Thursday evening.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Hammond in memory of Mom would be appreciated.
