Geraldine E. Potraza (Geri), age 68, of Griffith, passed away on Friday, November 9, 2012. She is survived by her sister, Mary Ranta of Schererville; brother, Joseph (Linda) Potraza of Cleveland, sister-in-law, Mary Potraza of Dallas; uncle, Raymond (Alice) De St. Aubin of Tennessee, many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, god children, cousins; friends and TWA Family. Preceded in death by mother – Bernadette, father- Joseph, brother- Thomas.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday November 17, 2012 at 10:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 525 N. Broad St. in Griffith with Fr. Theodore Mens officiating.
Burial will follow at St. John – St. Joseph Cemetery, in Hammond IN.
Friends may meet with the Family on Friday Nov. 16th, from 4-8:00pm with a prayer service at 4:30pm at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Ave. in Griffith.
Geraldine was born March 9, 1944 in East Chicago, IN. The family moved from Hammond to Griffith when she was a small child. She attended St. Mary Grade School, Bishop Noll Institute and Ball State Teachers College where she majored in Art. After teaching at St. Mary School in Griffith for a few years, she began working at TWA in Chicago as a reservations agent. As an officer of the TWA Employees Club, Geri helped plan events for employees. She retired from TWA/American Airlines after 30 + years of service. She was a dedicated employee and an adventurous traveler who loved to take rips on both domestic and foreign flights. Geri also enjoyed taking her family and friends with her on passes to enjoy the thrilling experience of flying 'stand-by' and to share with them the fun and excitement of travel to Disney, Las Vegas and other destinations both here and abroad.
She was a devoted daughter, beloved sister, cherished aunt, fond god-mother and dear friend. She will be missed by all.
