George W. Bunce age 97 of Griffith passed away on Wednesday January 18, 2017.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years Evelyn; children Larry (Ellen Fonoroff) Bunce, Donald (Susan) Bunce, Kathryn (Michael) Matthew, Sharon (Jim Cook) Grimble, and Thomas Bunce; grandchildren Paul (Elisha) Matthew, Amy (Ryan) Kegley, JoAnn (Marcus) Gilbert, Michelle (Paul) Monts; 7 great grandchildren; brother Dean (Jeanette) Bunce and by his numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents James and Della Bunce; sister Edith; and by his brothers Carl and Paul.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday April 1, 2017 at 11:30 am at First United Methodist Church located at 400 W/ 44th Place in Griffith with Pastor Tim Powers officiating;

Friends may meet with the family on Saturday April 1, 2017 from 10:00 am until the time of service at First United Methodist Church.

George was a retired science teacher with Griffith Public Schools and was Past President of their Teachers Union.He was a WWII veteran serving as a medic in North Africa, Italy and France. He was a member of Griffith First United Methodist Church, Griffith American Legion, Griffith Isaac Walton League, Griffith VFW, Griffith Historical Society, Save the Dunes, Audubon Society, Hoosier Prairie Committee and numerous other environmental organizations.
