Eleanore C. Herod, age 96, of Munster, Indiana passed away on Sunday May 29, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She graduated from Roosevelt High School, East Chicago, with honors, in 1937. She retired from Calumet Trucking Company in East Chicago in 1982 after more than 25 years, attaining the position of secretary to the president of the company. Eleanore will be remembered for her wonderful baking and needlework skills. She was an avid reader, and loved taking daily long walks. She always went out of her way to help wherever she was needed. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, the Altar and Rosary Sodality, where she always helped in their various fund raising activities, for as long as her health allowed. She is survived by her loving daughter Janice (Ronald) Szafarczyk, loving son Larry Herod, and dear sister Margaret Los, along with 8 grandchildren, Randy (Maria) Szafarczyk, Julianne (Tom) Troksa, Janeen (Bill) Schmidt, Angela (Skip) Hosler, Tanya (David) Veronesi, Sean (Christine) Herod, Ronnie (Carrie) Szafarczyk and  Stephen (Carrie) Szafarczyk and 16 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Lawrence Herod and her dear sisters Helen Bastasich and Lucille Eads.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday June 2, 2016 at 10:00am Directly at St. Mary Catholic Church at 525 N. Broad Street Griffith with Father Theodore Mens celebrating. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Calumet City, IL.

Friends may with the family on Wednesday June 1, 2016 from 4:00pm-8:00pm, with a wake service at 7:30pm at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Avenue, Griffith.
