Eduardo "Eddie" Perez

Eduardo "Eddie" Perez, 71, of East Chicago, passed away on Monday, January 9, 2017.  He was born March 30, 1945, in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico to Manuel and Francisca Perez.  Eduardo worked at Inland Steel for 36 years as a mechanic, retiring in 2000, and was known by all as the "go-to" guy, he could do it all.  At home, he was known as Mr. Fix-It. Eduardo was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, brother, tio and friend. His children lovingly referred to him as "Pa" and "Papi". He was a man with a big heart, strong will, soothing sense of humor, voice of reason and helping hand that touched many.

Eduardo was married to Mary Ellen (Balboa) for 50 years, who survives, along with his children: Eduardo (Lupe) Perez Jr., of Lowell, Manuel A. (Jeannifer  Lynn) Perez, of East Chicago, Rosemary Gutierrez of Hammond, and Sofia Abeyta of Chesterton; son-in-laws: Frank Abeyta and Jorge Gutierrez; his 8 grandchildren: Sofia, Jorge Jr., Eduardo, Olivia, Angelica, Anthony, Alicia and Vincent, and great-grandchild, A.J. Surviving siblings: Martha (Oscar) Garcia, Francisco (Josephine) Perez, Eusebio (Victoria) Perez, Amelia (Jesus) Lozano, Juanita (Reynaldo) Martinez and Ernesto Perez.  Preceded in death by his parents, Manuel and Francisca Perez, brothers Jose, Porfirio and Fernando Perez, brother-in-laws Antonio and Michael Balboa.

Friends may meet with the family on Monday, January 16, at White Funeral Home, 921 W. 45th Ave., Griffith, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., with memorial service and eulogy to follow at 7 p.m with Fr. Theodore Mens.
