Obituary

Carl J. Konopasek age 85 of Schererville, formerly of Griffith, passed away on Thursday December24, 2015.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Janet; children Bruce (Janice) Konopasek of Griffith, Karen Mastervich of Raleigh, NC, Rick (Brenda) Konopasek of Griffith, and Bryan (Judy) Konopasek of Hobart; grandchildren Craig (Sarah), Kyle, Jeff, David, Michael, Julie, Kristen, Curt (Alyssa), Kevin, Chris, Nicholas, Jacob, and Daniel; great grandchildren Lynlee and Landon. Carl is also survived by his brother Tom (Lisa) Konopasek; sisters-in-law Therese Konopasek, Dorothy Konopasek, and Barbara Dye; and by his numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents Verne and Julia Konopasek, his brothers Donald and Robert, and by his brother-in-law Jim Dye.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday December 30, 2015 at 10:00am Directly at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 525 N. Broad St. in Griffith with Fr. Theodore Mens celebrating. Burial will follow at Calumet Park Cemetery in Merrillville.

Friends may meet with family on Tuesday December 29 th from 2-8:00pm at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45 th Ave. in Griffith. There will be an evening prayer service on Tuesday at 7:30pm.

Carl was a lifelong member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Griffith and a member of the Knights of Columbus Marquette Council #3631. He was a graduate of Griffith High School class of 1948 where he excelled in Basketball. He was a Korean War Army Veteran and member of the American Legion Post 66 and the VFW in Griffith. Carl was a former co-owner (along with his brother-in-law Jim Dye) of Jim and Carl's Barbershop in Griffith for over 40 years. He served on the Griffith Town Council (Ward 2) for 16 years and he was a former member of the Griffith School Board for 8 years. Carl was also Past President of the State of Indiana Barbers Union and former member on the Indiana Licensing Board. Carl was an avid Chicago Bears fan (where he loved tailgating) and a Cubs fan, and he thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren at the lake house.

Jim and Carl's Barbershop is now open again in heaven.
