BERNADETTE G. POTRAZA (NEE DE ST. AUBIN) GRIFFITH, IN Bernadette G. Potraza (nee de St. Aubin), age 93 of Griffith, passed away on Thursday April 19, 2012. She is survived by her daughters: Geraldine E. Potraza and Mary B. Ranta; son, Joseph E. (Linda) Potraza; daughter- in-law, Mary A. Potraza; grandchildren: Wendy (Michael) Frazier, Dawn (Donald) Clark, Kyle (Lisa) Potraza, Andrew Joseph (Bonnie) Potraza, Mary Alice (Jason) Robinson, Maureen Ranta, Theresa Ranta, Angela (Kevin) Nicolini, Ryan Potraza, Eric Potraza, and Lorinda Wagner; great grandchildren: Matthew, Kathryn, and Monica Frazier, Mary Elizabeth Clark, Taylor, Caitlyn, and Ella Potraza, Thomas Potraza, Leo Nicolini, and Kyle and Dakota Wagner; one brother, Raymond (Alice) de St Aubin of Tennessee; compassionate caregivers: Marta Rios, Debbie Goodale, and Cheryl Bieber; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Joseph Potraza; son Thomas J. Potraza; and stepmother, Margaret de St Aubin. Bernadette was born November 27, 1918 in Chicago to Emile and Elsie de St Aubin. As a child she moved to Hammond and attended St. Joseph grade school in Hammond, Catholic Central (Bishop Noll) and Ball State Teachers College. Bernadette taught at St. Mary Catholic School in Griffith Indiana for 20 years. She was a proud member of Pi Epsilon Kappa Sorority (Beta Chapter) and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Griffith. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church with Fr. Theodore Mens celebrating. Burial will follow at St. John-St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Hammond. Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday April 24, 2012 from 5-9:00 p.m. at White Funeral Home , 921 W. 45th Ave., Griffith. There will be an evening wake service at 6:00 p.m. Bernadette was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend. She was often called "My favorite teacher from 5th grade". Bernadette loved watching sports, playing cards, pinochle, 99, bingo, and playing nickel slots in Las Vegas. She will be missed by many and all that knew her. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Mary Catholic School. For more information please call White Funeral Home at 219-924-4100.
