Anita Gutierrez, age 53 of Merrillville Indiana, passed away on Saturday, October 22, 2016 after a brave battle with cancer. She was born on December 29, 1962 in East Chicago Indiana and was a life-long resident of the Region. Anita is survived by her two loving sons, Ruben and Armando Maldonado; her mother Maria Ines Gutierrez; three sisters, Blanca (Benjamin) DeLeon, Diana Gutierrez and Cynthia (Richard) Flores; many caring nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles and her four-legged best friend, Gigi. She is preceded in death by her father, Ruben Gutierrez. Anita was an employee of St. Anthony Home, Assisted Living in Crown Point for 4 1/2 years as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She loved to read, dance, bake, hit the flea markets and watch scary movies but most of all, spend time with her family. Anita will be dearly missed by her family and friends.

A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 24th, 2017 at 11:00 am at Our Lady of Consolation Church located at 8303 Taft Street, Merrillville, Indiana, with Fr. Peter Muha officiating.
