On Saturday, September 14, 2019 Lois Seehausen, age 83, after a long battle with cancer, went home to be with her Lord and Savior. Lois was born on June 20, 1936, in Hobart IN, where she lived for many years, raising her children. Lois later moved to Lansing IL and Hammond IN.

Preceded in death by her parents Victor and Bernice Butler, her sisters Dolores Marshall and Laurette Stewart, her husbands Kenneth Cook and Harry Boyd, and one great-grandchild, Jennifer Greenwell. Lois is survived by her loving husband, Dean Seehausen, two daughters; Pennie (Carl) Nelson and Denise Greenwell Hansford, six grandchildren; Amber Greenwell, Isaac (Dana) Nelson, Clay Greenwell, Lois Smith, Joshua Greenwell, Sarah (Phil) Horton, and two step-grandchildren; Eric (Becca) Nelson, Christopher (Sarah) Nelson and eighteen great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are her sister-in-law, Elizabeth (Richard) Economou; brothers-in-law Henry Seehausen and Rev. James Facklam, Jr; and step-children, Valerie Drach, Edwin (Dolores) Seehausen, Sherri (Eugene) Metcalf, Cynthia Montanez (Hector Ortiz), and Emilie (Wayne) Niksich, and their families.

Lois was an active member at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church where she enjoyed sharing the gift of her voice through song. Lois was also active as the choir director and soloist at Augustana Lutheran Church; Hobart, IN; St Luke’s Lutheran Church, Munster, IN; Our Savior Lutheran Church, Lansing, IL; and a number of other churches throughout Northwest Indiana. Lois shared her love of music singing in community & church choirs, in Community Theater at IUN in the 1960’s, and many, many private gatherings. She also loved the music of hand bells and enjoyed playing them before she lost her sight. Lois’ love of music has blessed many people.

In 1995, through a tragic error Lois lost her eyesight and was declared legally blind. Despite her failing eyesight Lois enjoyed crocheting lap blankets for nursing homes and churches to distribute to those in need and made many blankets for her family and friends. Though she experienced a number of traumatic losses throughout her life, Lois never wavered in her Love of God, music, & people.

Lois will long be remembered for her beautiful voice, her infectious smile, kind words, and unconditional love.
