She is survived by her daughters Jan (Jim) Paul of Hammond, IN, Judy (Money) Garcia of East Chicago, IN, son John (Lora) Earl and daughter-in-law Yolanda Earl also of Hammond. Grandchildren Jerry (Kelly) Paul, Julie (Cliff) Gunter, Jenny (Gerritt) Prince, Jimmy (Angela) Earl, Vincent Garcia, Nicole (David) Bastardo, Natalie Garcia, Jacy (Chris) Lopez, Justin (Sarah) Earl, Erica, Jerry, Amber and Lily Earl. Sister Betty Reiplinger of Minnesota. Jenny absolutely adored her family and considered it her biggest accomplishment. Jenny was born in Schererville, IN on October 2, 1922 to William and Elizabeth Hilbrich. Even as one of 14 children, Jenny had a bond with her siblings like no other; a passion for fishing kept them close. This passion also led to numerous family fish fries. Jenny’s other passions included, the Chicago White Sox and Bulls and IU basketball. Jenny played the “hot corner” for Schererville’s softball league and was once featured in a newspaper article about Women’s Softball in the 1940’s. Her ability to hit and throw was never lost during homerun derby with her family; her powerful right arm also gave her much success as a bowler for over 50 years. At age 77, she bowled a 279 and was inducted into the Indiana USBC in 2010. She proudly accepted a posthumous Hammond Sports Hall of Fame award for her husband in 2000. Jenny greatly enjoyed beating any would-be opponent at bean bags and bingo was serious business. Her collection of clowns is a testament to her sense of humor. Jenny went to work at her brother’s restaurant, Earl’s Tap in Schererville in 1969 to temporarily fill a waitress spot; her career spanned 40+ years. Although the restaurant’s owners’ changed through the years, the patronage of Jenny’s regulars never shifted. Her fandom for her children and grandchildren was ever-present as she was a fixture in the bleachers and stands. Although she is gone, the warmth Jenny left in our hearts is carried on through the crocheted afghans she lovingly created for her family. She will be deeply missed.
