Vera L. (nee Thompson) Bellinger-Girton  age 89 of Portage formerly of Sun City West, AZ and Griffith, IN passed away on Tuesday May 23, 2017.

She is survived by her children: John (Conni) Bellinger, Melvin (Rita) Girton, Donna (Dave) Taylor, Maelia (Bob) Bodnar,  daughter-in-law Elnora Girton, 12 grandchildren 12  great grandchildren and 9 great great grandchildren; sisters: Velma (late Floyd) Gephart,  Madaline Brown and several nieces and nephews.

Vera was preceded in death by her parents Sewell and Edna Thompson, husband Frank Girton,  sons Gary Bellinger, and Albert Girton, siblings Sewell Thompson  Jr, Joyce Thompson, Charles Thompson, and Richard Burkett.

 Funeral services will be held on Saturday May 27, 2017 at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church at 10:00 am located at 356 W. 700 N Valparaiso, IN 46385 with Father David Gosnell celebrating.

Burial will follow at Memory Lane Cemetery in Schererville, IN with Deacon Dennis Guernsey officiating.

Friends may meet with the family at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church  on Saturday May 27, 2017 from 9:00 until the time of the service.

Vera retired from the Deer Valley School System in Phoenix, AZ.  She was a member of the Arizona Walkabouts and earned 10,000 mile patch.  Vera was an avid baseball fan of the Chicago Cubs and Arizona Diamondbacks.   She enjoyed going to the casinos.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Brookdale Portage (especially Erma)  and Dunes Hospice for their loving care of Vera.

In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Dunes Hospice, 4711 Evans Avenue Valparaiso, IN 46383 in memory of Vera.
