January 30, 1938 ~ April 26, 2017 (age 79) 79 Years Old


Edward J. “Ed” Lively age 79 of Griffith, passed away peacefully at the Riley Hospice House on Wednesday April 26, 2017 surrounded by his family. He is survived by his sons Richard (Monica) Lively of Brownsburg, IN., and Michael (Becky) Lively of Hammond, IN; grandchildren Nick, Megan, and Jenni. Also surviving is his sister Joan Lively of Riverdale, IL; brothers in law Dennis (Judy) Valade of Chesterton, IN., and Edward (Sandy) Valade of Lansing, IL; nieces and nephews include Deena (Peter) Pidrak of Valparaiso, IN., Robert Valade of Lansing, IL., Vicky (Eric) Odegaard of Dyer, IN., and Greg Valade of Hammond, IN., and by many great nieces and nephews.

Edward was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years Donna Lively, his parents William Lively and Mildred Roth, and his in laws Donald and Mary Lou Valade.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday May 2, 2017 at 10:00am Directly at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 525 N. Broad St. in Griffith with Fr. Theodore Mens celebrating. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens in Schererville.

Friends may meet with the family on Monday May 1st from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at White Funeral Home located at 921 W. 45th Ave. in Griffith. There will be an evening wake service at 7:30pm on Monday.

Ed was a member St. Mary Catholic Church for 52 years. He was retired from NIPSCO after 33 years of service. In addition to being a devoted husband, father, and friend, Ed was involved in many clubs and organization throughout his life. He was a leader for Cub Scout Pack #578, a Scout Master for Boy Scout Troop #518, a founding parent of the Griffith Swim Club, and a member of the Griffith Civil Defense where he served as Director for many years. During his time as a member of St. Mary Church, he served on the Parrish council and was a member of the Knights of Columbus, a member and officer of the Men’s Club, and along with his wife Donna, chaired the Car and Cash Raffle at the St. Mary Church Western Days for 14 years. Ed and Donna were also longtime members of the Worldwide Marriage Encounter. Ed’s smile and quick wit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. His family would also like to give thanks to Hospice of the Calumet Area with a special thank you to the RN’s and CNA’s at Riley Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Hospice of the Calumet Area.
